Happy Birthday Gamma Psi.. 73 Years...Onward and Upward...
It was the Spring of 1948, recognizing the expansion of fraternal life across Historical Black Colleges and University, Twelve (12) undergraduate college brothers and a college Advisor step forth to raise the Alpha banner. The banner was raised and the light of Alpha was turned on to shine bright at Saint Augustine’s College (now Saint Augustine’s University) in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Following in the footsteps of our seven (7) Jewels, the twelve undergraduate college brothers and one college advisor, namely, John Miller; Andrew Humphrey; William Le Flore; Walker Le Flore; George Barzey; Ben Stephenson; Henry Goodson; Arthur Fox; Furness Armstead; William Padgett; Edgar Harris; Henry Hill; and Professor Reginald Lynch (Advisor) (as shown in picture above); chartered a new chapter into the history of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
The charter brothers met the moment of 1948. They ushered in Key 88 and the door of Alpha was opened at Saint Augustine’s University on March 15, 1948.
Thousands of brothers have since walked through that door. Brothers have emerged from its basement of development to stand tall and sit proud as Alphamen in their own rights and in keeping with the ambitions of the fraternity.
We honor and say thank you to the charter brothers for their work in putting us in the position of Alphamen and giving us a moment.
As we celebrate Gamma Psi at 73 today, we call on all brothers on this celebration to meet the moment – to serve, to give, and to follow in the footsteps of Gamma Psi Charter brothers and our Seven (7) Jewels. This is a time to commit.
Today, we celebrate Gamma Psi at 73 years with size, strength and spread the world over. We celebrate Gamma Psi at 73 with a moment that is equally unique to the times in which we live in the United States and across the world. This is a tine to commit.
In following the footsteps of those before us, let us leverage the size, strength, and spread of today to deliver the gifts on this birthday and beyond – to help educate 75+ students over the next three years; and to continue to make Gamma Psi a chapter for the better making of Alphamen. This is a time to commit.
